Senior UX/UI Designer

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer to be an innovative and creative lead in designing the next-generation User Interface for our industry leading Content Management / Digital Signage Platform.

As an experienced UX/UI designer you will play a lead role in designing the next generation user interface for our core digital signage platforms.  You will review the existing user interface and through your design expertise, understanding of the platform, as well as soliciting feedback from internal users and our clients, design a new HTML5-based interface to ensure efficient use and navigation through the various user flows.  In this role you will:

  • Determine the design interactions and work flows for improved customer experience
  • Develop and/or review conceptual wire-frames, which include design layout, navigation, and accessibility requirements that are aligned to product/feature specifications
  • Lead, solicit and facilitate user research to get feedback on usage and design considerations
  • Present design concepts at stakeholder review meetings and engage in friendly critique sessions in order to come up with a great design
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate usability testing, including creation of prototypes
  • Analyze industry best practices, customer feedback, new vendor offerings, learnings from metrics tracking, and competitive analysis and recommend opportunities for improvements to the customer experience, products, tools, etc.
  • Actively participate in working sessions to determine requirements; review project requirements and production

  • Work closely with the Product Owner, Sales, Development and QA teams to ensure User Interface is following the design principles you set out

What makes you a great fit? 

  • University degree in Computer Science, Interaction Design, or Graphic Design or other relevant education
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years in user experience issues, including HCI principles, Internet design principles, W3C standards, accessibility considerations, user research techniques, and usability testing
  • In-depth knowledge of design thinking, user experience principles, usability testing, and user centric design practices
  • Experience executing a successful online customer experience; this includes experience with visual design, navigation, and information architecture
  • Experience working independently or as part of cross-functional teams on small and large projects
  • Experience working closely with other teams on time estimates and feature trade-offs
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and technologies
  • Knowledge of web technologies (platforms, devices, HTML, CSS, SASS, Java Script, Angular (1.6 and later); ability to code in one or more of these technologies an asset
  • Advanced knowledge in mobile-first design principles as well as responsive design practices
  • Exceptional design software and presentation skills; including working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Balsamiq or other wire-frame tools
  • Representative portfolio of a minimum of 3-5 projects highlighting your working designs from concept to delivery including wire-frames, user flows, user interface designs and/or prototypes (flats are acceptable, however, fully or partially-functional demonstrations would be ideal)
  • Digital Signage / Retail / Marketing experience would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Act as a design resource and advocate for the user during all product review and planning meetings with peers and stakeholders
  • Design and execute user research including stakeholder interviews
  • Design and implement a new user interface for our content management system; assist in building and improving our user interface design system
  • Work closely with other team members to iterate designs and ensure high quality design implementation and user experience
  • Work with other team members to understand information architecture and technical requirements/limitations, implement and drive product requirements and roadmap and deliver high quality software
  • Act as a design and technical resource to customer support, documentation and quality assurance as needed

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Self-motivated
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in user interface design and/or software development.
  • Ability to use a business and user-centric approach to design; Deep expertise in one or more of UX/UI disciplines (product design, design systems, content strategy, user research, or front-end development) and you actively collaborate with team members and stakeholders outside your area
  • Strong understanding of Human-Computer interaction; Understanding and experience with User Centered Design Methodologies (UCD)
  • Possess excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills; strong team player
